Shopping search engine comes to the iPhone

Twenga launches application for iPhone, just in time for shoppers about to hit the sales to check for the best prices on offer.

Web-based shopping search engine Twenga has today launched the first price-comparison application for the iPhone.

The Twenga iPhone Application lets iPhone owners use their mobile phones to check the price of an item to find the best deal before buying it in a store.

Developed in collaboration with software publisher Backelite, the application is available in six countries, including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands.

Available for free download via the iPhone App Store, users can browse through prices, offers, technical specifications and consumer reviews available on Twenga’s website using an interface specifically designed for the iPhone.

Building on the 20 million internet users to the 12 country Twenga websites since it launched two years ago - according to Google Analytics figures - Bastien Duclaux, Twenga chief executive, stated: “We are very pleased to be the first enterprise to offer a price comparison application specifically designed for the iPhone.”

Sébastien Berten, chief executive of Backelite, added: “The ability to compare prices on the road – whether to make an urgent purchase decision or to double-check on a last-minute bargain – is a great consumer benefit.”

The iPhone application also adds to Twenga’s other price-comparison services, which include international price comparison and price drop alerts.
